![]() by Nan It was hot. It was sticky humid. Pretty typical weather for Maryland in summer. Cooling drinks were definitely in order during our visit this past June and early July, especially since we were sweating away installing tile in a new shower. Sangria and wine coolers sounded just the ticket for a pre-dinner refreshment. Then my daughter-in-law Crystal handed me a nifty new drink (at least new to me). I dubbed it the Ting Cooler--and an instant winner. The back story is that Crystal has never been a fan of white wine, but this is a white-wine-based drink that's come to be her new favorite. Best friend Rob, who lives in Puerto Rico, introduced Crystal to the drink and says it is popular in Jamaica where the carbonated all-natural citrusy beverage called Ting is produced from local grapefruit. If you've been to Jamaica, you probably already know that "Ting is da thing" there. Stateside, it's available at some better-quality beverage stores and also online at amazon.com. Or substitute carbonated Squirt. No need for expensive wine--just buy a light, fruity white one--with a screw-cap bottle for instant opening. Or. if you're having a party, a decent boxed wine will cool down the group. The Ting cooler "recipe" if you want to call it that: equal parts chilled Ting and white wine poured over ice in a wine glass. Yah mahn, sip and enjoy!
